Preamble

As I value your privacy as well as my own and as I hate spamming, all information that I have or receive about you (visitor's of this site that submit any personal or other information on this site or people subscribing to my email list) will not be disclosed by me to any commercial third party nor used by myself for commercial purposes - but treated personally and confidentially. In short: your privacy is pretty much kept at this end.

However, you may want to keep in mind that any communication between you (the visitor of this site) and me (this website's webmaster) is traveling through various parts of the Internet in non-encrypted format, i.e. any kind of information that you submit or receive here may end up in numerous hands (ISPs, your company's computer department, vendors of any Internet tools you are using, etc.), which is entirely out of my control (that - by the way - is true for just about every site you visit on the Internet). Please consider this before you rely on total confidentiality and better assume any information that leaves your computer (incl. the mere exposure of your IP address by simply connecting to another site) to travel through the Internet to be public domain - regardless to whom you send it. If you rather wish to browse this site securely through SSL, click here (It doesn't ensure total privacy, but eliminates most of the leaks between you and this site).

As a site note: The only way to ensure safe communication (and thus be able to rely on the confidentiality of the communication) is through end-to-end encryption (e.g. PGP, which will eliminate everyone but the two people who actually communicate). If you wish to ensure confidential communication with me, use my public PGP key.

Having said that, once your information reaches me, here is what happens:

Data collected

This website, like most, logs every hit with the date, IP address, HTTP agent and - if applicable - login information for a restricted section.

No Cookies (or web-beacons from other sites and the alike) are used on this site to personalize your viewing experience (or track your every step ;-) as of today.

There are some submission forms on this site where you may submit whatever information you like to volunteer. Along with the submitted data, the time, IP address and HTTP agent are usually collected as well.

There are some special email lists that are maintained on this server for friends of this site (all non-commercial); these special purpose lists may have their own specified privacy settings depending on the list (which is explained for each list individually). Subscription to such a list will require your explicit agreement in the first place and you will also be able to control your subscription/unsubscription at any time. Automatic subscriptions do not take place (these lists contain only personal friends, anyway).

To download the source code in the developer section, you will have to provide a valid email address, which will be stored in a secured database on this site (with no third party having access to the information, as I wrote the script myself) along with the usual - IP address, HTTP agent and your name (if you dared to give me your real one).

How the data is used

Data from the log file is only used for my own interest - to see how this site is used and thus to improve the site accordingly.

If you downloaded the source code in the developer section and left your email address, I'll not use your email address (or any other submitted information) for anything but directly related to the download - if at all (which is far more likely). I just put the procedure in place, as I am personally curious for feedback on who's using my code - that's it.

If you submit information to any submission forms on this site, that information will solely be used for the purpose stated along with that submission form.

I will not disclose any of your personal information like email address or name, unless you tell me in the comments that you wish to be credited on this site if I chose to display your submissions here - which I would do anonymously by default. The rest of the submitted data is considered public domain and may be displayed on this site. You may choose to tell me in the comments that I am to tread submitted information confidentially, which I will do in that case.

If you submit to the VSNT Register list, all information that you submit may be displayed on the VSNT Directory. You can always choose to alter or delete your entry on the VSNT Register page; note that updates to the directory are maintained manually, i.e. changes may not be reflected timely.

Opting out

If at any point you want to get your email off any list that I maintain, you use the instructions given for the specific list you are on - or simply email me.

If you insist to not be recognized if you ever download another item from my download platform with the same email address, send me an email and I will do my best to remove you from there as well.

3rd party integration

This website is largely advertising free , so you won't find banner advertising, images from other sites and/or web-beacons that place or read 3rd party cookies on your computer through web-beacons or such crap (i.e. I pay the bills for this site myself).

The only exception to this rule is an Amazon-Associate program that is used in the BARF-section - which wouldn't pay me more than a single book in a quarter so far, though.

There are certain submission forms on this site that will transfer your submitted information to other sites:

Search for a book submits your query to Amazon.com

Search in the Yahoo! box submits your query to Yahoo!

Search in the Google box submits your query to Google

To understand what will happen with that information, you will have to refer to the privacy statements on the respective sites.

If you leave any information on a site that is linked from antelmann.com  but not directly hosted here (like amazon.com, evite.com, www.cafepress.com/barf, www.cafepress.com/antelmann, antelmann.vstoremusic.com or vstore.com/vstorereading/barf), I cannot control your privacy there. In those cases, again, please refer to the privacy statement of the respective site.

There is one page that uses a frame to display another website's content within. It is made obvious, but nevertheless maybe worth mentioning: Book Club BARF's Merchandise. The implications from this are already covered above.

Summary

If any collected or received information violates any laws or common ethics (here, your common sense should apply), I may choose (or be forced) to disclose collected information to third parties that are appropriate in the given case; commercial uses of the information remain excluded.

If you want to act on anything else (like correcting mistakes during submissions or other), you can always send email to webmaster@antelmann.com.

As this site is maintained single-handed, I may have missed something, but doubtfully anything substantial; please refer also to Terms of Use - Legal Notes.

Again (as already mentioned in the about page), this site is just a private effort for fun and my intention is not to annoy or abuse anyone's rights - and the same should apply to you.

Of course, any part of this statement may change at any time in the future (the usual disclaimer), but I certainly do not intend to change the nature of this statement.

If you want to learn more about what potentially could be done to invade your privacy online, you may want to take a look at these links for your interest or education.

In case you have any worries or questions about any part of this statement, you can contact me here.

Thank you,
Holger Antelmann
