I don't like Spam!

(why is this page pink?)

NO SPAM

You may or may not relate to what I address on this page. In fact, I do hope that you are not affected - but the chances are low if you have been a member of the Internet society for a while. If you want more information about the subject, visit any of these links.

Personally, I am finally sick of getting all kinds of junk emails through my private email accounts that I've never asked for. The worst thing is that most of those junk emails don't have proper return addresses - well, they sure know why. And if they do have them - and even offer to remove you from their lists if you reply properly - they might take advantage of the fact that they got an email address that is actually been read by a person and sell it to the next guys (it happened before!).

So, it's really hard to actually do something against it. Many efforts that look like a way of solving the problem are often just another way to get your email address - so watch out before you subscribe to anything (even if it seems like an anti-spam organization)!
It doesn't even cost those spammers much money to fill your mailbox; so they don't bother and keep doing it - because they can.

Sometimes, I just don't get it: how could any serious business expect to make money by annoying people with their junk?
Well, looking at the majority of unsolicited emails, a first answer seems easy: Most of them are no serious businesses!

Spamming is jeopardizing one of the most effective ways of communicating today: email.
The difference to all other ways of doing direct marketing is that with spamming, most of the burden (i.e. cost) associated with those emails is on the receiving end - and this is what I call economically unbalanced (since you can't do anything against it).

BTW, here is a hint: Unless you read your email through a browser (in which case: tough luck for you), I suggest to always disconnect from the Internet (or set your email client to 'offline') before you open any email you're not sure about. Chances are that whoever send the email to you will know when you open it - with HTML tags in the email that can uniquely identify yourself.

But please make up your own mind and become aware of an indeed serious issue within the Internet community - by reading on.

(Of course, regardless of the seriousness of this matter, find out how the name 'spam' got associated with this here. :-)
