The Dispute

What began as a normal bookclub reading, became an international crisis.

"A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth

It all began when we had our normal bookclub meeting on May 16, 1999 when we decided to read "A Suitable Boy" (well, actually it began when we decided about our first book at our first meeting, but that's another story ;-).
Shortly thereafter, I browsed through a few reviews on Amazon and Barnes&Noble, which let me to leave a comment in the BARF message board - not unheard as it turns out.

The decision to read the book became questionable and the 'decision maker' Branko claimed that he did not know about the 1474 page issue.

Next, we sat down on May 23 and argued abut changing the book reading decision. The results of that discussion can be read here.

Of course, unruly as BARF is, this did not go through without controversies and let to a broader dispute.

Then, due to the delicate combination of nationalities represented in BARF, the dispute escalated into an international crisis that could lead us to even more trouble.

The only question left: what about the Indian dinner that we were to have for the next bookclub session?
